Description:

Sooty is lovely lad who has been a stray, he is about 7 years old, is neutered, chipped and vaccinated, he uses a litter tray and eats well.

Sooty has a lovely personality, is a lovely boy and he loves cuddles and being around people.

Sooty came in as a stray from an area with a lot of cats, he is not a fighter so must have been beaten up and as a result he has tested positive for FiV which is a viral infection that affects cats, it causes affected animals to have a weaker immune system in comparison with non-FIV positive cats. A FIV positive cat may be prone to infections but most cats live a happy, normal life.

We can only rehome FIV cats to a home with no other cats, although in Sooty’s case he would be fine with other non-aggressive cats as he loves feline company; he will need to be an indoor only cat or have access to a catio or confined outdoor space.

Sooty really would like a loving homes after years of being a stray.

Thinking of adopting one of our animals?

Our Branch is dedicated to finding the best ‘forever’ home for each of our animals.   Their species, personality, age, health and background are all considered carefully.    We seek to find them each a home where they will live a happy and healthy life and be able to express their natural behaviour.  We embrace the ‘Five Freedoms’ set out in the Animal Welfare Act 2006. Although our re-homing procedures are designed to guard against mismatched animals, if the animal doesn't settle in their new home, the RSPCA will ask for his/her return in order to find a more compatible alternative home. PLEASE NOTE: In the interest of our cats we usually do not allow rehoming to homesholds with multiple pets (special cases will be considered).

Adoption Procedures

  1. If you are interested in adopting a cat, please fill in our enquiry form here and submit via email/post. If you need any further information or help completing a form please contact the branch via one of the options here.
  2. The branch will review your adoption requests and contact you to arrange a viewing.
  3. If you wish to proceed with the adoption we will then arrange a home visit which will be carried out by one of our qualified home visitors. This can be done in person or via video call. The purpose of our home visits are listed below:
    • Our animals are our first concern. We seek to find home environments which are suitable for each specific animal’s needs.
    • All home visits are carried out in accordance with nationally agreed RSPCA guidelines.
    • They provide the Branch the opportunity to discuss the proposed adoption with the entire family in the comfort of their own home and offer the home visitor the opportunity to answer questions with regard to the animal’s needs and care requirements.
    • They allow us to provide information, advice and resources to assist in the event the visit is successful and the adoption process is approved to go forward.
  4. Should the home visit be successful, we will provide information regarding the adoption process.
  5. The animal will have a full health check by our vet before leaving the cattery to ensure that it is fit and healthy.
  6. A donation to the RSPCA (we ask for a minimum donation of £100 for cats and £150 kittens) is required from you at the time the adoption paperwork is completed.  This donation helps to offset some of the costs of the following:
  • Vaccinations
  • Flea & worming treatment
  • Micro-chipping (for identification)
  • Neutering
  • Veterinary Health check
  • Cattery fees

Post Adoption

The Branch carries out a subsequent visit to the adoptive home a few weeks after the adoption via appointment.  This helps us to ascertain how the animal has settled in and answer any questions or concerns which may have arisen.
