Every cat deserves a home where they can feel safe, understood and loved. Our adoption process helps us find the right fit for both you and the cat.

Thinking of adopting one of our cats?

Our Branch is dedicated to finding the best ‘forever’ home for each of our cats. Their breed, personality, age, health and background are all considered carefully. We seek to find them each a home where they will live a happy and healthy life and be able to express their natural behaviour. We embrace the ‘Five Freedoms’ set out in the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

Although our re-homing procedures are designed to guard against mismatched animals, if a cat does not settle in their new home, the RSPCA will ask for their return so we can find a more compatible alternative home. In the interest of our cats, we usually do not allow rehoming to households with multiple pets, although special cases will be considered.

Adoption procedures

1If you are interested in adopting a cat, please complete the below Perfect Match Form form or take a copy of the form to submit it by email or post. If you need further information or help completing a form, please contact the branch.
2The branch will review your adoption request and contact you to arrange a viewing.
3If you wish to proceed, we will arrange a home visit with one of our qualified home visitors. This can be completed in person or by video call.

Find a home environment that is suitable for each specific animal’s needs.
Follow nationally agreed RSPCA guidelines.
Discuss the proposed adoption with the whole family and answer questions about the animal’s needs and care.
Provide information, advice and resources when a visit is successful and an adoption can move forward.

Before your cat comes home

Every animal has a full veterinary health check before leaving the cattery. A donation is required when adoption paperwork is completed: we ask for a minimum of £100 for cats and £150 for kittens. This helps offset the costs of vaccinations, flea and worming treatment, microchipping, neutering, veterinary health checks and cattery fees.

Post adoption

A few weeks after adoption, the branch will arrange a follow-up visit to your home. This helps us understand how your animal has settled in and gives you a chance to raise any questions or concerns.
